The Fuzz Face

Known as the Abriter Fuzz Face, Dunlop in 1966 create arguably the most notable Fuzz Sound ever. Jimi Hendrix used this pedal through his career and this pedal is still readily avalible today. One of the interesting unique elements of this pedal is that the sound would change regarding how much power the battery had left, this is reffered to as battery-sag. Many influential artists would keep extra 12V batteries on hand at different stages of charge to experiment with the variation in sound.

The Fuzz Face used silicon transitors rather than germanium due to their predictability in sound for mass production. Silicon had a much gnarliar sound that fit perfectly in the 70’s music scene spanning various different genres. Listen to Jimi Hendrixs “Purple Haze” to hear how the Fuzz Face changed the world.
